Car Seats | Baby Safety | Installation
I think we can all agree that when it comes to our children there is nothing more important then safety. There are so many safety products out there that it feels a little overwhelming for new moms or even some seasoned moms to find the right products for their families. I do believe that just because one product may not have worked for you does not make it a bad product. Sometimes it just isn't the right product for your family and lifestyle. As a product blogger I'd like to help you decide if these seats are a good fit for your little ones.
Now that being said I want to touch on car seats today. As a mother of 4 we currently have 3 car seats installed in our van. They are not all the same brand for different reasons. We chose our car seats based on price, safety features, bulk of the seat, and the ages of our little ones.
I want to give you a small sneak peek into some of the things I'm going to include in this post because I'd like to start with the main reason for my post. I want to cover the different seats that I do have and use. I'll review these products and tell you why I chose them. I also want to touch base on restrictions, proper installation, and properly buckling baby.
Evenflo Big Kid High Back Booster Car Seat is our first seat. Our oldest that rides in a car seat is 7 yrs old. Restrictions in my state of Ohio require them to ride in a booster or seat until the age of 8 or 4'9.
This also includes cup holders. It was a really great feature for our trip to Gatlinburg! Although all of these things are great the icing on the cake was the really good price. I get all of the safety features, my son loves the color, and its not huge and bulky yet its still affordable for a larger family.
This seat has a high star rating and you can also read 230 reviews on Amazon HERE.
Cosco Scenera NEXT Convertible Car Seat - This is the car seat we use for our 1 yr old daughter. We chose this seat because it was basic. We didn't need all of the extra features that some seats for this weight limit and age have. Some of the seats for this age range are huge and so bulky! They have extra padding and are difficult to put your little one over the side to get them into the car and strapped in. We had previously had that issue when our other kids were her age. So we avoided all of that mess and went for safe and simple.
The straps are easy to deal with unlike some I've had that are thin and twist when you put your child in. It has a really good snug fit and is easy to adjust. The 5 point harness seats are much different then the boosters. When fitted properly the straps should be snug and not twisted. The crotch belt is large and easy to snap.
This is also really easy to take apart for cleaning. Its easy to install rear and forward facing. The weight limit on this seat is 5-40 lbs.
I'm not sure that there is much else to tell you about this seat because of the simplicity of it. It really is a great buy if your looking for easy and safe.
Nurture Infant Newborn Car Seat - I love this car seat. It is light weight. So easy to install. If your seats have the little hooks you'll be hooked up and ready to go in a matter of minutes. You can also install this with the car belts if you have an older vehicle. Comes with a base.
We were caught off guard by our little ones appearance almost 7 weeks early. We did not get to pick our seat for this one. I was able to tell my mom the features we needed and she did a very good job picking a seat that fit us. I love the design on this seat too!
It was super easy to install the base and its easy to get the seat in the base and latched and unlatched. That is VERY important for me! If I'm out and about with my youngest 2 I have to be able to get him out easily and still be able to keep my eye on my 1 yr old. This seat snaps onto the front of shopping carts easily as well. It has a canopy which I use often to shield the sun from his face while riding in the car.
I even use this in the house. Our son has a severe case of reflux and is very uncomfortable a lot of the time. After feedings he needs to be slightly upright to keep the acid down. I take the car seat and place it inside of his pack and play and he rests for 30 minutes after feedings. He seems more comfortable and less distraught with this routine. The car seat has the perfect incline for this.
Our biggest thing when we were telling my mom what she needed to buy was weight restriction. Our son was 3 lbs 15 oz when he was born. We needed a seat that a preemie could ride home in. This seat restriction is 5-22 lbs. When released he was exactly 5 lbs. He was so tiny but fit inside the straps well. The buckle wasn't overly large and was easy to strap him in.

We have already discussed how important it is to snap your baby in properly. The chest clip should be at shoulder level, straps snug, and installed per your states requirements. I of course am not someone who is certified to tell you how to install a car seat or how to buckle your baby.
I will however link you with The Car Seat Lady. She has a lot of great information available. Anything car seat that you need to know she has this information for you and is very easy to navigate her site.
